Juniper has arrived. So far she's happy, healthy, and hungry and is currently napping in her grandmother's arms. More to come.

Overdue

So, yesterday was Tara's due date. It came and went with nary a contraction. This was despite the fact that we ended up walking for about 1.5 hours last week the day we went down to Point Pleasant park to watch the tall ships leaving.

So we spent yesterday trying to be productive. It was probably Tara's last day of pre-natal yoga, although she's going to continue to practice some of the more useful moves at home - like this supported squat.

Tara made some liners for a bunch of baskets that we got for cheap (thanks Carroll, for the tip!), to put the diapers in. Oh, and we bought a pile of brand new cloth diapers the night before. It seems like a huge investment, especially since they are destined to be pooed in, but I think we'll be pretty happy with them. Thanks to everyone who contributed to those!

Seeing Stars

I got it into my head a couple of months ago that I wanted to line the baby's room with painted stars. After looking and looking for plain wooden stars, I ended up having to order a bunch off of ebay, and then took a couple of days to paint and decorate. It has taken awhile but finally, Clark and I managed to find a bit of time last night to hang them. This means that the baby's room is almost done! Likely the baby won't actually sleep here for awhile yet (s/he will sleep in our room for awhile, I imagine), but it feels nice to have it almost organized, and decorated, and to know where to find everything we need. The bird mobile won't stay in the middle of the room, but it looks nice there for the time being. Also, you can't see all the stars in these pictures, but they go the whole length of the room. There are 54 in total.

It has been very hot and sunny in Halifax today and yesterday, which is a bit of a shock to the system after seemingly endless weeks of cold, drizzly overcast weather. Though it finally feels like summer, I find myself feeling incredibly big and sweaty and hot and uncomfortable. So this is what it is like to be very very pregnant in the summer! But I won't complain. Clark and I went to see the parade of tall ships from Point Pleasant Park today in the peak of the afternoon heat, which meant WAY more walking (about 1.5 hours in total) and sitting in the sun than either of us had anticipated. We agreed at the end that we won't try that again unless I'm actively trying to induce labour.

Getting Close

Well, we've been very lax on the whole "updating the baby blog" project, but better late than never, right? We just took some pictures, and thought it would be a good time to post them. I am getting very, very close to my due date now, which is theoretically the 25th of July. My feeling, however, is that I may well be late. We've also been busy trying to get things ready... I don't know if I've officially entered the "nesting"phase yet, but I've certainly been keen on getting a bunch of projects done. Here is one we actually completed about a month ago, and it turned out even better than I had hoped. I made all the little birdies and the nest, and Clark was the genius behind making the whole thing balance properly. We found the alder branches while on a walk in Point Pleasant Park.

More photos and updates to come, I promise! At the very least, we will also be posting newborn pictures whenever that happens.
